วัดมังกรกมลาวาสตั้งอยู่บนถนนเจริญกรุงเขตป้อมปราบศัตรูพ่ายมีชื่อเดิมว่า วัดเล่งเน่ยยี่เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2414 พระอาจารย์จีนวังสสมธิวัตร (สกเห็ง) ครั้งเป็นพระอาจารย์สกเห็งแห่งวัดบำเพ็ญจีนพรตเป็นผู้เลือกชัยภูมิที่ตั้งเพื่อเผยแพร่พระพุทธศาสนาตามลัทธิมหายานและพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว โปรดเกล้าฯ พระราชทานนามใหม่ว่า วัดมังกรกมลาวาส
