วัดปรินายกเดิมชื่อวัดพรหมสุรินทรตามนามผู้สร้างคือเจ้าพระยาบดินทรเดชา(สิงห์ สิงหเสนี)เมื่อครั้งยังเป็นพระพรหมสุรินทร์อยู่ในรัชกาลที่1ต่อมาพระบาทสมเด็จพระนั่งเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวรัชกาลที่3ทรงพระราชทานนามใหม่ว่าวัดปรินายกสมัยรัชกาลที่5พระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงปฏสังขรณ์และพระราชทานวิสุงคามสีมา
