วัดอภัยทายารามตั้งอยู่เลขที่ 15ซอยราชวิถี 18ถนนราชวิถีแขวงทุ่งพญาไทเขตราชเทวีกรุงเทพมหานครสังกัดคณะสงฆ์มหานิกายอาณาเขตทิศเหนือติดต่อกับคลองสามเสนทิศใต้ติดต่อกับโรงพยาบาลพระมงกุฎเกล้าทิศตะวันออกติดต่อกับชุมชนอนุสาวรีย์ชัยสมรภูมิทิศตะวันตกติดต่อกับโรงพยาบาลพระมงกุฎเกล้าพื้นที่ตั้งวัดเป็นที่ราบลุ่มริมคลองสามเสน วัดอภัยทายารามหรือที่ชาวบ้านเรียกว่า วัดมะกอก สร้างขึ้นเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2340ผู้สร้างวัดคือ สมเด็จพระขัตติยภาคีกรมขุนได้รับพระราชทานวิสุงคามสีมาเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2344 ประกอบพิธีผูกพัทธสีมาใน พ.ศ. 2344 โดยพระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราชและสมเด็จกรมพระราชวังบวรมหาสุรสิงหนาทเสด็จมาเป็นประธานในพิธี
