โรงเรียนวชิราวุธวิทยาลัยตั้งอยู่เลขที่ 197 ถนนราชวิถีแขวงดุสิตเขตดุสิตเมื่อวันที่ 29 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2453 พระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว โปรดเกล้าฯ ให้สถาปนาโรงเรียนมหาดเล็กหลวงขึ้น โดยพระราชทานที่ดินส่วนพระองค์และพระราชทานพระราชทรัพย์ส่วนพระองค์ปลูกสร้างอาคารและโรงเรือนชั่วคราวต่อมาให้สร้างอาคารถาวรเมื่อวันที่ 16 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2469 ได้เปลี่ยนชื่อโรงเรียนมหาดเล็กหลวงเป็นโรงเรียนวชิราวุธวิทยาลัย
